A GOOD REASON TO FILE YOUR 2009 TAX RETURN

IRS Tax ProblemsIRS News

If you never filed your 2009 tax return, you may have a very good reason to re-think that position.

The Internal Revenue Service says it has over $900 million in unclaimed tax refunds for 2009. However, the time to claim those refunds is running out. The refunds are owed to almost one million people who didn’t file a return for 2009. When you owe the IRS money they have ten years to collect from you. However, when they owe you money, you only have three years. So taxpayers must file their 2009 returns by April 15 in order to claim these refunds. If you don’t do that on time, the money then goes into the U.S. Treasury and it never comes back out, at least not to you.
